MSN6.1 installed on Win98 and Win XP.

Why is there a difference between an installation of
MSN6.1 on a computer with Windows 98 and an other one with
Windows XP home.
Explanation.
Having both a webcam and a microphone connected, we have
on the Windows 98 computer differend things that are not
visible and usable when
clicking on the downside arrow (on the right of webcam,
audio and startmenu)
So I don't find "starting a videoconference" and even two
other possiilities (whiteboard).
Can this be the reason why we can only "see" by webcam, but
cannot speak (audio)to each other.
When I have contact whith other friends(who have also XP)
there is no audio-problem.
Can somebody help us.

Greetings tuurke,

The two features you mentioned -- Video Conference and Whiteboard are Windows XP (and Windows
2000 + SP4 for Whiteboard/Application Sharing) features, they will not be available on
Windows 98.

However, voice conversations should be able to be established between the two Windows
versions without a problem. Since you're able to talk to other users, it seems that the
problem is most likely on the Windows 98 PC (which I assume is what your contact is using).
They may be using a router, or firewall, which is blocking the voice conversation and as
such, preventing you from connecting to them. If they are using a router, the router must
support Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) in order for voice conversations to be established. A
good majority of routers now have UPnP functionality, they may just require a firmware update
that supports UPnP or just have to turn on UPnP in their router. If you let us know what
router they're using, we can quickly help both of you correct the problem.

Also, if they're using a third-party firewall (for instance, ZoneAlarm), they will most
likely need to set it into the 'Medium' security zone or simply allow Messenger full access
to the Internet (usually under the 'Permit All' or 'Allow All' option in most software
firewalls).
