MSN & POP3 Access - MS Update!

For those of us struggling to get POP3 MSN mail in Vista -- no matter what
the client, I just received this from MSN:

We wanted to inform you that access to the MSN POP3 service will be changing
effective February 1, 2007. This message has been sent to the e-mail address
that corresponds to the primary e-mail account that you use to access the
MSN POP3 service. You must manually change the settings in your POP3 account
no later than February 1, 2007 in order to continue to access your MSN POP3
mailbox.

In order to continue using the MSN POP3 service, you must make the following
changes to your mail client effective Feb 1st:

1. On the Servers Tab,
a. Change the Incoming mail (POP3) and Outgoing mail (SMTP) settings to:
i. Incoming mail FROM pop3.email.msn.com TO pop3.live.com
ii. Outgoing mail FROM smtp.email.msn.com TO smtp.live.com
b. Uncheck the "Log on using Secure Password Authentication" box

2. On the Advanced Tab,
a. Change the port number for Incoming Mail (POP3) from 110 to 995
b. Check both the boxes that indicates "This server requires a secure
connection (SSL)"

Just a followup to let my fellow sufferers know that MSN POP3 email now
works on WInMail on Vista with the above new 'Live' server settinings.

One thing different -- you must log in with your entire email acct, not just
the ID as in past. So you must use (e-mail address removed), not just emailname.

And remember, you still can't set up an MSN email acct from scratch using
the wizard on WinMail. Use a dummy domain for your email acct for setup and
then go back in and change it to msn.com.

Clown,
Pop3 legacy account ?

That message was in February, what have you been using since.
It's worked since then for my legacy pop3 accounts in all o/s and software
that support SSL and authentication.
