msn messenger virus

Hello!

I recently clicked on a link that a friend sent to me, which automatically
sent it to all the contacts online on my messenger. I now have this virus on
my computer which periodically will send this link out to people online in my
contacts list.

I have run countless anti virus scans, but it doesnt seem to fix the problem

Can someone please help

What virus was this?
It obviously has been caught by something or all of your friends would have
it - so someone knows the name. heh

Have you scanned for other malware besides viruses? Also all scans
should be done in safe mode.

Run these programs to check for spyware/malware. After installing
update them, then boot into safe mode and run them. You should update
and run them weekly.

When you know that you are infected the first thing you do is disconnect
from the internet. Pull the plug! After all, it is YOUR friends, family and
acquaintances you are now infecting!

Then figure out what you are going to do. It may well be that you have to
use another computer to download what you need to clean YOUR computer.

Don't use a friends computer though as you have already infected it through
yours. Use a library computer.

thats the problem. i dont know then name of it, i have tried the antivirus
scan but still no joy!

hi i can help you on this one. i had this virus its quite easy to get rid
off. well first you need to update your virus protection then download EMCO
malware bouncer from www.download.com after that scan your computer with your
antivirus software. that should do the trick and make sure don't log on to
msn messenger or it will send out the link to your friends.

Congratulations on being an idiot - anyone could have told him that...

Download and run Hijack this, save the file and post it on one of the
HJT analyizing forums. I had the very same problem and it was very
difficult to locate and find the offending trojan. You can also look
in Windows/system32 for unknown files which is where some of mine
ended up being located, google any files that you are suspicious of.
Another program which helped find some of those files is "Scanspyware"
from http://www.scanspyware.net it found several files that the
others missed. Good luck.
