I have recently bought a new PC with windows xp on it. As part of the package it had windows messenger on it. I was using it to chat to my friends as I already have an account with msn messenger using my email address as a passport
I found I couldn't use my webcam as the windows version of messenger doesn't support webcams so I did as I was instructed and downloaded msn messenger 6.1. Now both windows messenger and msn messenger fight to load when I open up my pc. I have tried to uninstall windows messenger but can't find it listed on my uninstall list. Can anyone help please

On both MSN Messenger and Windows Messenger, click on
Tools/Options/Preferences and uncheck the box(es) which tell it to start
when Windows starts.

Greetings Dev,

Windows Messenger does support webcams, dv cameras and video inputs. However, the "Webcam"
functionality within MSN Messenger 6.x requires both sides to be using MSN Messenger 6.x (as
such, Windows Messenger isn't compatible with this function). However, MSN Messenger 6.x
running on Windows XP can make use of a "Video Conference" option, which is fully compatible
with Windows Messenger's video feature.

However, to stop Windows Messenger from starting, open it up (click Start, then Run, type
"msmsgs" and click OK), click Tools, Options, Preferences tab and uncheck 'Run this Program
when Windows starts' or 'Run Windows Messenger when Windows starts' (depending on version) as
well as 'Allow this program to run in the background' or 'Allow Windows Messenger to run in
the background' (depending on version).

I haven't found a way to uninstall Windows Messenger or
disable it from signing on as soon as I start the
browser. In order to use all the features of MSN
Messenger, I just make sure to sign in there; it
automatically signs me out of the other Messenger.

1.Go to start, right click on Windows Messenger (probably 4.7) an
delete.

2 delete C:\Program Files\Messenger

That should be good. Worked for me, but you may need to run msconfi
to get it off your startup
