MSN Messenger reset to old version after Windows Update

This is the second time I've used "Windows Update" to update security and
other "critical updates". This seems to work fine. However, when I start
MSN messenger, it is reset to an old version (4.7.3001) rather than version
7.x that I had been using before the update. Very odd. Anybody experience
the same?

You have two Messengers on your machine, Windows Messenger and MSN
Messenger. I bet you opened Windows Messenger. Try opening MSN Messenger
and looking at the version number.

The critical updates have nothing to do with it.

Thanks,
I didn't think the update should have any effect... but one never knows.
You're correct; there are two messengers. I hadn't opened either, but
responded to a chat request. It appears to have deferred to the Windows
Messenger. Silly, I didn't notice...too many applications open all the time
to pay attention to everything.
