Hi there,
I just installed Messenger 6 today and now I cannot sign
in to it at all (despite having followed the installation
instructions and various forum posts on how to fix this).
I even reverted back to Windows Messenger and am having
the same problem.
The error message says something to the effect that
either my internet connection isn't there or there's a
service problem with Messenger, neither of which is true.
I've deleted the MSNMessenger registry entry, as
suggested in a forum, to no avail. I'm now wondering if I
can delete all or part of the MessengerService key (I
currently have neither Windows Messenger or MSN Messenger
installed but this key is still there).
In MessengerService/GroupStateCache there's an entry
called User which contains my email address and lots of
numbers - I presume this is to identify the main user of
Messenger, i.e. the one who gets signed in automatically.
I don't want to go deleting random keys, so could someone
tell me if deleting this one might help (or would it
cause any harm apart from needing to re-set up Messenger
when I reinstall)? Or is it safe to delete all of
MessengerService?
Thanks,
Gillian
