MSN Messenger 6.2 sounds

Larc

I've generally been very happy with MSN Messenger since I replaced Windows
Messenger 4.7 with it. But I don't care for the sounds and have not been able
to change them. When I do make changes and Apply, default sounds are back once
XP has been rebooted and MSN M 6.2 is opened again. This is the first time I've
ever had problems changing from default to other sounds.

It should be a simple matter to delete the sounds Messenger is insisting on
using and to rename the sounds that I want to the deleted default names. But
there should be a less extreme way of making the changes than that.

TIA for any ideas!

Greetings Larc,

Actually this is a bug within the current version of MSN Messenger 6.x.

As a workaround, simply save over the sounds in the \Program Files\MSN Messenger with the
ones you want.

Thanks very much, Jonathan. I imported sound files from WINDOWS\Media, deleted
the offending MSN Messenger sound files, and changed names of the imported files
to match names of the deleted files. Everything is now fine, of course.
Perhaps MS will get around to fixing this bug within the next year or three?
