MSN Instant Messenger

I have Windows XP and MSN Instant Messenger on my
computer. I recently downloaded Windows Messenger 6.0.

My friend in Canada has Windows 98 and MSN Instant
Messenger on his.

Up to the time when I downloading the Messenger 6.0,
everything had been working fine. Now since 6.0. He
can't seem to do instant messaging with me.

Did I screw it up with downloading to a new version,
while he has the older version?

What should I or he do? We miss our Instant Messaging.
He has tried to download the 6.0 but when he clicks on
O.K. the window disappers and nothing happens.

There are real problems with MSN Messenger 5.0/6.0 on many systems.

Please don't confuse MSN Messenger with Windows Messenger - two different
programs! Both can connect to MSN IM network, but Windows Messenger only
runs on Windows2000 or WindowsXP.

Many people are having trouble getting onto MSN IM with MSN Messenger - can
your friend even login?

You were probably forced to download the new MSN Messenger 6.0, correct? A
window popped up insisting that you do so? That probably happened to your
friend also. Note that MSN Messenger 5.0 is much better on older machines
than MSN Messenger 6.0 (which won't run on Win98 anyway), so have your
friend try MSN Messenger 5.0.

Here's the link to download MSN Messenger 5.0 for Win98/Me from
