MSN CANT HOLD CONNECTION

I am using MSN/8, IE7, on a home network with two computers running winxp it
takes forever to get a connection and then it keeps disconnecting. When
trouble shoot windows apears i get a msg about ports i can run repair with
and get the OK then it disconnects again. With limited knowlege i found
Win/firewall is ticked for MSN8 any help would be fantastic.
 
Taking into account that all updates are ok,& windows firewall exceptions are
edited properly.Try opening internet options,advanced,click on "set to
default"
apply,close out.Open cmd prompt,type:netsh Winsock reset Type:CHKDSK C: /F
Agree to restart,type:EXIT Restart pc.
