MSINFO and Help Problem

I installed SP2 on XP Pro recently, and on trying to run MSINFO32 to
check things out, all that happened was a brief flash of
the hourglass, then nothing. No error message, no log
entries. Also found the same symptom when trying to access
Help & Support, and trying to access the link in Event Viwer to expand event
text.

Got in touch with M/S support, and tried some things they
told me to, which didn't work, and the best they could
suggest was doing a Repair Install. Seems like a
sledgehammer to crack a nut, but I had a few hours today,
so I uninstalled SP2, then all the Hotfixes and ran Repair
Install from my install CD, which includes SP1. Symptoms still happened.

Installed SP2 again. Still the same.

Hardly a showstopper, but anybody got any ideas?

Just went through everything there in detail and tried all
the fixes and checked my registry against the .reg files
provided. Found one registry entry missing, put it in, but
still no difference.

I have found only one description on the web through
numerous searches that exactly matches the problem I am
having (both helpctr and msinfo32), and this was regarding
the use of a registry cleaner. I haven't used one, and the
keys missing in that instance are there anyway.

Still can't find out how helpctr and msinfo32 are related,
which I thought might provide a clue.

Not the most important of problems, but frustratiing
nonetheless!!
