Hi,

We encountered some serious problems this week. When we run msiexec, for
e.g. repairing a msi install, the memory usage of the msiexec.exe process
sky rockets. It finally halts on 1.6 GB but never finishes. Eventlog and
logging of the installation doesn't unveal any errors. Do you guys have an
idea what can go wrong?
Windows Installer 3.0 on XP SP1.

kind regards,

Scan for malwares and Viruses on your computer, then if you have a GPO set
see if you can change a settings to allow such operation, but I assume you
loged as Admin and have Credentials.
I don't know is this a Org Policy but why you didn't update to SP2?.
Run a sfc/ scannow to check for a corrupt core file and can repair for you
the damaged/corrupt windows installer.
Read this you can use command and switches with msiexec.exe to achieve what
you after:

Please let us know.
