MSDOS RS232 Program not working on XP

I have a msdos communication program running under Win95 on a old computer (8
year old) and all is fine. I know have a new computer (Pentium 4 3.00 HGz)
running XP. The program runs but does not work in respect of the RS232 port.
I have changed the compatiibility to run for Windows 95 in the properties
