MSDE Install Failure

On a Win2Ksp3 server I am trying to install MSDE. However everytome the
installation nears the end and then rolls back. All I get in the log is:

Event Type: Information
Event Source: MsiInstaller
Event Category: None
Event ID: 11708
Date: 04/05/2004
Time: 22:30:20
User: N/A
Computer: ORASERVER1
Description:
Product: Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine -- Installation operation
failed.

This came about after uninstalling BackupExec9.0 and attemtping a install of
BackupExec9.1 which also fails because it cannot install MSDE. Any ideas, I
cannot find much in Knowledgebase.

Im actually experiencing the same problem. im running a win2k dc whic
on it i had installed ScanRouterV2 (scanning software for a rico
photocopier) I uninstalled this and Msde wasnt uninstalled properly.
cannot install msde again as install always rolls back, and i also can
install back up exec 9.1 because msde isn't installed. ive tied t
manually uninstall msde but many of the registry keys which i shoul
have just are not there.
Any help would be muchly appreciated

Hi,

I had this problem also. But after I rename the "c:\progra
files\microsoft sql server" folder and reinstall the Veritas Backu
Exec, the problem had been solved.
