Sometimes, when surfing i get an error message
saying "Microsoft Internet Explorer has encountered and
error and must be closed..." When i click the more info
button there is something about the file mscvrt.dll this
seems to happen often at respectable sites accross the web
at random.

This is probably being caused by a third-party program (adware, spyware,
parasite)

Work through the solutions (CWShredder, Ad-aware, Spybot) at
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm Also note the security tips on that
page.

Additional information at:
The Parasite Fight http://www.aumha.org/a/quickfix.htm
Bugs, Glitches & Stuffups: http://www.mvps.org/inetexplorer/Darnit.htm

If not caused by malware, consider disabling (for diagnostic purposes)
legitimate programs running in the background which might be interacting
with IE- security, antivirus, ad-blockers, toolbars & other add-ons, etc.
You may have to uninstall then reinstall, or not reinstall, a program. Yahoo
Companion can cause this.

Other possible causes at http://inetexplorer.mvps.org/answers_5.htm#msvcrt
such as having the wrong version of msvcrt.dll for your system.

Hope this helps,
Don

have you ever tried mozilla.org firefox ? more
secure for not allowing automated hijacks. popup blocker
and other nice features.
