I have been trying various things to get rid of some bugs that were causing
problems logging off accounts,,delayed sounds,,router brain farts and such
and was going thru msconfig and found a start up program that simply shows a
bunch of squares where there should be words next to startup,, command and
location gives..software\microsoft\windows nt\current versio...Does anybody
have this and what exactly is it and do I need it ??

Hi Drew,

Seen it on a number of systems that I've worked on - I just remove the
registry entries. Seems to be a leftover from a BHO that was removed by
some spyware cleaners.

Rick: I greatly appreciate your response and would like more info if you can
like How do I get rid of this and do you have any idea as to what it is
??..Also what is a BHO ??..I do not mean to sound stupid but do not want to
mess this up...

Thanks for the help..........................Drew

Hi Drew,

BHO=Browser Helper Object, many of which are malicious. MVP's Sandi
Hardmeier and Jim Eshelman talk about them on these pages:
http://aumha.org/a/noads.htm
http://aumha.org/win5/a/parasite.htm
http://www.mvps.org/inetexplorer/Darnit.htm

You will likely find the startup references to them under these keys in the
registry, and make sure you look under each user's logon if they are in the
first key (it is user-specific):

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\MSConfig\startupreg
