msconfig

I am working on a HP 1.2 gig Celeron with 128 megs of ram, using Win Home.
.. Recently it has been taking forever to boot up. It had Mcafee antivirus
program on it but i don't think they ever used it. I put in Norton Internet
Security and it found one virus in the prescan and it fixed it. (W32 Spybot
worm webdav.exe) I also ran Ad Aware 6.0 and removed 51 objects.
However it is still running very slow.
I tried to open "msconfig" from start/run and it may flash on the screen for
a second then it is gone. The hour glass is working for a few seconds then
it wuits and nothing comes up.
The task manager doesn't open either.
Any suggestions on what I should do?
Thanks Tom

In addition to further cleaning of the viruses and spyware from your
machine you also need to seriously consider adding more RAM if you
want any sort of decent performance from it.

You need at least another 128 mb and preferably 256 mb of RAM in order
to get decent performance from Windows XP.

Also one of the best ways to make any machine run slow is to install a
Norton or McAfee product - they are well known for having the "who
dropped the anchor?" effect on system performance. And with both of
these performance killers installed it is like driving a car with both
feet on the brake pedal.

Good luck
