I have just noticed that Add/Remove Programs disappeared from the
Control Panel. I restored the system by using a restore point which was
the only one left there but to no avail. Is there a way to recover
Add/Remove Programs without resorting to reinstalling WXP?

Have you been using Tweak UI for XP? I think it has a way to get rid of it,
maybe you can restore it that way too (especially if you inadvertently got
rid of it that way)

Thank you for your response.

I downloaded a registry named as "addremoverestrictionsundo.reg" and
installed it but the problem did not go away.

Thanks for your response.

I do use Tweak UI for XP and I thought about what you suggested and looked the
list but "Add/Remove Programs " is not in the dialog windows of TweakUI.

This is related to spyware/virii. Start here (run each of them) and also
read the read the MS article listed lastly via my site:

Add or Remove Programs tool appears to stop responding after you remove the
security update that is documented in Microsoft Security Bulletin MS04-015

Thanks for your response.

I ran AD-Aware, Spybot, and a complete system scan by Norton Antivirus, but
"Add/Remove Programs" icon never come back to Control Panel. I looked for the
MS article but am not sure which one is the you are referring to. Could you
post the URL?
