After recently updating windows xp i tryed to use msconfig
but it came up saying 'This operation has been cancelled
due to restrictions in effect on this computer.' I am the
only user on my computer and i am a system administrator.

Thanks in advance

Click Start, Run and enter REGEDIT Go to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explore
r

Look in the right pane for a value called DisallowRun If it exists, it
should be set to 0 (zero). If not, double click it and change it to 0.

Next look in the subkey

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explore
r\DisallowRun

Each value in the right pane represents a restricted application. Right
click the appropriate entry and select Delete.

Or see www.dougknox.com, Win XP Utilities, Windows XP Security Console.

Thanks that worked.

Thanks, Doug, that did the trick. As a sidebar question,
why did that happen, "Disallow" changing to 1? And I had
about 25-30 applications in there, from my scanner to some
..dll files.

Unless you're on a corporate network, I would suspect a virus/trojan. If
you're on a corporate network, then these policies were most likely put in
place by your system Administrator.

saw your message back in nov about msconfig im having same problem did u find out how to fix it
please email back at (e-mail address removed)

You probably need to provide sufficient information so
that people will know what it is you are talking about.
