The other day, I had msconfig open, flipping betweeen tabs when suddenly
things froze up on me and I had to reboot. When I rebooted I had lost sound,
wireless internet, printers etc. Another odd symptom was that my desktop
appearance is kind of mix between classic and xp

After some investigation, I discovered that there were numerous services
turned off. I turned on the audio service and another service required for
interent and got my web access and sound back.

I'm thinking that somehow I stopped essential services when the computer
froze up as I was selecting diagnostic startup or something.

How do I know which services should be turned on. Should they all be set to
automatic and started?

Open MSConfig and set it to do a normal StartUp. Also look through the
Services tab for any you accidentally deselected.

I have already tried setting it to 'Normal Startup' and am experiencing the
same problems.

In my 'Services' tab, I see all the services listed, but a large percentage
are disabled. My question is do all services need to be set to automatic and
started? Or are there some servies that are best to leave disabled?

In the services tab, select enable all
