msconfig does not run

E

Envo

Running XPHome.

Start\Run\"msconfig"\OK produces message "Windows cannot find 'msconfig'.
Make sure you typed, etc., etc.,......."
Works fine for other entries.

Ditto for "msconfig.exe"

'Search' shows I have msconfig.exe in "C:|WINDOWS|PCHEALTH|HELPCTR|Binaries"
& also a msconfig.ex_ in C:\I386.
System Config Utility runs OK from the first of these in Explorer.

Norton tells me I am virus-free.

Any ideas why 'Run' does not start the programme.

TIA

The default location for msconfig is in the registry. Look for the key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App
Paths\MSCONFIG.EXE
and set the default value to
c:\WINDOWS\PCHealth\HelpCtr\Binaries\MSConfig.exe.

However - I read, I looked - but no key referring to 'msconfig' at that
location!

Anything I can do about this? Can I safely attempt to add a new key and/or
value to the registry?

Yes, you can add the key. Should be no problem.
Unless you plan to include some horrendous typing errors ofcourse ;)
