Windows can't find "msconfig"

When I click Start, click Run, type "msconfig", I get the error message,
"Windows can't find msconfig....."

Yesterday, my "Help and Support" wouldn't work, but now works fine after I
followed directions on one of the XP help websites, downloaded
"helpnsupport.reg" and ran it.

I did a search for msconfig and found msconfig.exe in
C:\WINNT\PCHealth\HelpCtr\Binaries

Obviously, this is not where Windows is looking for it. When I click on it,
the msconfig program works fine. How do I get it back where it belongs so
Windows can find it?

Thanks in advance. Fleur

Thanks, Andrew, but my Start/Run/msconfig still gives an error message
saying Windows can't find it and I'd like to know why and how to fix it.
Something is wrong in the "Run" command, I think, but I don't know what.

Thanks, and at least I now know that msconfig.exe is supposed to be in the
binaries directory. Fleur

See if "Msconfig - Corrupt" is of help. That info is at Kelly's link,
below, under "M".

I can think of 2 solutions.

Solution 1: When you need to run msconfig, click Start, Click run and type
"C:\WINNT\PCHealth\HelpCtr\Binaries\msconfig.exe"

Solution 2: When I run a search for msconfig, I get 2 hits on the search.
One copy in "C:\WINDOWS\PCHealth\HelpCtr\Binaries" the other in
"C:\WINDOWS\system32\dllcache". I would try copying msconfig so that there
is a copy in both of "C:\WINNT\PCHealth\HelpCtr\Binaries" and in
"C:\WINNT\system32\dllcache" or in (which ever folder exists)
"C:\WINDOWS\system32\dllcache"

I would think that adding c:\windows\pchealth\helpctr\binaries to the
path statement in the control panel; system would work.

Success. Your Solution 2 put me onto the right track. My Start/Run is
finding its programs in my WINNT\system 32 directory. I found that out by
looking for a command that was working there, i.e. "help", and searching for
where it was located. I found that neither msconfig nor msinfo32 were in
that directory but were found elsewhere. I copied them to the system 32
directory and they now work!

As I wrote in my first message about this, I had a Trojan that has been very
troublesome and left a lot of sequelae which just keep cropping up. My
Norton AV icon in the notification tray just stopped working, as did ALL
previous restore points. I've used every spyware, adware, extra virus
programs, etc. that I could find and now have a clean system. My Norton AV
icon still doesn't work, but my Norton Firewall icon does and gives me
access to the AV. How this Trojan changed the Run command, I have no idea.
It just managed to move things around. My Restore now works again,
thankfully. I know I'm not the only one out there having these problems, but
I sure have learned a lot about my system lately.

Thanks again for putting me on the right track. Fleur
