Hi All,
I installed Norton firewall the other day, but had a small problem, so
Symantec told me to check in msconfig for certain files. I have checked that
everything is ticked & clicked OK. My PC wanted restarting, but during
shutdown an error screen appeared regarding a Norton firewall file that did
not appear in msconfig, but it shutdown too quickly for me to note the exact
error.
Now i`ve noticed that during start up, my HP screen appears followed by
another black screen with white text, but again, it starts to quick for me to
note what it says. Does anyone know if using msconfig can change startups? I
have not changed anything at all.
Many thanks in advance.

Ian.

MSConfig assumes you want to reboot, else why would you be playing with it. But it means you made changes somehow (ticked or unticked something) else MSConfig wouldn't have offered to reboot the machine.

I have found that MSConfig will give you the Re-Start
Message even if you you've not made any changes if you
click OK - if you click CANCEL then all is well - no Re-
Start Message

Hi David,
I have not ticked, or unticked anything at all. When I opened msconfig &
checked services & startup tabs, I just checked that everything was ticked,
because my Norton firewall 2004 was disabling when my PC was restarted, but
i`ve fixed that problem by ticking to start the firewall when Windows starts,
but this is an option on the Norton program itself.
I just can`t understand why this new screen appears, it is similar to the
screen that you get in safe mode, but I don`t know how to stop it.

Thanks again.

Ian.
