MSAS crashes my system...

MSAS Version: 1.0.615
System:
AMD64 3500+ on Asus A8V deluxe motherboard. W2k SP4 O/S.
1Gb RAM. ATI Radeon 9500 pro graphics.
If I try to run a scan with MSAS, a few seconds into the
scan the computer crashes, i.e. all activity ceases and
video to the monitor is lost necessitating a hard reset to
recover. No messages in Windows event logs.

No applications open at all - no antivirus running, no
firewall, (not connected to the web, needless to say!), and
running processes reduced to the minimum. The fact that the
monitor loses video completely makes me wonder if it could
be a conflict with the ATI catalyst graphics drivers.

The machine just stops dead, no error message, no apparent
HD activity and monitor loses signal.

I agree with the suspicions regarding the ATI video card. I have
approximately the same setup and when I put a fresh OS on it I have many
crashes until I can get the ATI drivers straightened out. Doesn't matter
what I'm trying to do (Internet Explorer, Windows Explorer, etc.), the
computer will crash.

What version ATI drivers are you using? Is this new behavior since you
started using MSAS?

I've had the problem for a while, but hoped that the latest
version of MSAS would cure it - it hasn't. I downloaded the
latest version of the ATI W2k/XP catalyst drivers, (5.7?),
last night and installed them but no better. I'm not
entirely convinced that it is the ATI drivers. The crash is
pretty fundamental, whatever it is and no BSOD or error
message occurs and no MSAS error log or Windows event log
entry is created either. The only slightly unusual part of
my system is that I use twin SATA hard drives on the
motherboard, (Asus A8V deluxe), embedded VIA controller in
a raid0 array and wondered if it could be a clash with the
VIA SATA or raid drivers.
