someone releases a new Messenger popup that does really

I agree 100% that everyone NEEDS to install this patch
right away.

However, the messenger service is not the vector that
would be exploited here - there's enough misinformation
about it that I wanted to clear this up

Kent is 100% right however, you NEED this patch.

That's right, it wouldn't be a Messenger popup, it probably wouldn't
even alert you in any way that access had been successful and software
had been installed. You could only watch the blinking lights and wonder.

Although a braggart might send you a Messenger popup to let you know he
had hacked your system and you had three seconds to watch your hard
drive data start disappearing.
