MS XP Home SP1 Upgrade to MS XP Pro SP2

Can I upgrade MS XP Home SP1/SP1a to MS XP Pro SP2 using the "MS Windows XP
Professional w/SP2 upgrade" retail package ? Has anyone been successful
trying this ? I've read a lot about the headaches with XP Home SP2 to XP Pro
SP1 and I'm hoping I can avoid them. Any suggestions would be greatly
appreciated.

Yes you can make that upgrade because you are upgrading on all counts.

XP Home SP2 to XP Pro SP1 is a downgrade of Service Pack and not possible.

Jazz;
But it does matter and it will not work.
This is a very common problem since SP-2 arrived.
Many are needing to uninstall SP-2 before installing Windows XP Pro.
And in some cases a Clean Install.

Is it really a downgrade, theupgrade of windows Xp pro should just treat it
as either a third party program or reset to the plain XP and then allow you
to upgrade to sp2 again. I don't think the jump from home sp2 to pro sp1
woudl matter because the jump from home to pro should over-ride it.

Interesting, Thanks for clear ifying that. I do upgrades quite often and
never would have saw it that way. i guess now i can save a problem form
happening.

Or at least quickly recognize it when you see it and not spend unnecessary
time diagnosing as so many others have done.

the problem there is that it is trying to back to earlier version files,
which can't be done
