I have a document in Works that I cannot open in Office 97. I have
downloaded converters but it still will not open. I cannot understand why MS
would make a product (Word) that cannot open other MSD products!!!

Any ideas on how/what I need to do to open this Works doc?

MS Works should open it, OR a Microsoft Word version released AFTER the
version of Works that produced the file.

You left out the pertinent piece of information - what version of Works
was the document created with ? You're trying to port a document to
a very old version of Word. Compatibility is generally forward looking.
An older Works file might work with Office 97. If the Works doc was
created with a newer version of Works then trying to open with Word
97 may not be possible even with format converters.

Even a recent (Free) OpenOffice suite has no capability to read and
work with .Wks type files.

Works in a less expensive Word Editor than Microsoft Word and each
uses it's own proprietary format ( .Doc & .Wks ).

Or in Works you can export it in Word format as a .doc file. I don't know
if you can still find (or maybe it's on the Office CD as an install option)
a converter for Office97 that will allow you to open *some older versions*
of Works files (assuming it is an older version).

The first thing to do is ask in a group with WORKS in the title. The
next thing to do is notice THIS group LACKS that word.

Ask elsewhere
