MS Works Word Processor Question

Pete

Hi everyone,

I notice you can not print a selection in the MS Works (8.0) word processor.
I have xpsp2.

I have an HP deskjet 932c printer. In the print menu it only allows you to
print the whole document or certain pages, but there is no button for
"selection".

That seems awful "chincy" to me, and doesn't say much for the works word
processor IMO. Is there any way around this (I doubt it - maybe a different
printer driver would yield a different print menu with a selection button on
it - dunno). I tried two different printer drivers for my deskjet and
neither one produces the selection button in the print menu.

Thanks...Pete

Did you select the text first, then use the File/print menu
to begin the print dialogue ?

Of course Jim...the print menu only gives you the option to print the whole
document or certain pages like I said. There is no option button for
"selection" even after highlighting the text first. Do you know of some
"backdoor method" for printing "selected" or "highlighted" text in the Works
word processor. I just find it hard to believe that Bill Gate's people
would cut corners on a simple feature like this.

Thanks, and please respond again if you have any ideas...Pete

Are you able to print selections in any other word processor such as
OpenOffice Writer? OO is free so if you want to test, you can download it
from www.openoffice.org. What about on websites? Can you print selections
there or from Word Pad? If you aren't offered the "print selection" choice
in other programs, then I'd say the problem is with HP's print drivers.
That isn't under Microsoft's control. If you are offered the "print
selection" choice in other applications, then the problem must lie with
Works. If that is the case, post in the Works newsgroup because you'll get
the Works experts there.

A driver update from HP or a new printer?

Thanks Malke...I can print selections fine on the internet using FF. Also I
have an old version of MS Word and it has the selection button in the print
menu. It is definitely a peculiarity of the Works word processor (ie it is
cheap). I will write the Works site you gave me - couldn't find it when I
searched my ng's - too many things with "works" and I didn't know which one
to choose :) .

You could highlight the text and then copy/paste it into a new blank
document and print that.
