MS Word Shortcut will not stay in Task Bar

When I click on my Word icon on the desktop, word is opened.
After I use word, I minimize it to the Task Bar.
It stays there for awhile, but when I need to use Word again, it is gone.
I click on the Word icon on desktop again and Word opens up to document 2. ???
How do I keep Word from disapearing from Taskbar??
