Wrd 2000 on Vista Home Premium. Everything's hunky dory except that when
I go to open a file, and I click the mouse on a folder or file on Word's
file Open dialog box I get the system defauly "ting" sound. Mouse is a
bog standard MS optical scroll mouse, and the drivers for it are the
Vista built in ones. No idea what started this, and it's hardly a major,
but it just irritates me 'cause I can't stop it. I've look in the sound
control panel and there's nothing associated with anything there that
could be causing it. Can anyone help me escape my "ting"?

I see this in Powergrab. Every time I select a file I get the 'ding'
even though sounds are off in Powergrab. If I select 'No Sound' (Control
Panel/Sound/Sounds)for the default ding I get the PC speaker making a
sound which is louder and more annoying.

I ended up creating a new empty wav file and using that instead of the
default sound.

My newsreader, Gravity, did something similar.
I just clicked the speaker icon in the notification area (bottom right,
near the clock), selected "mixer", and muted the sound for that
application. No more "ting" from it! :)

Oh, hey, that's interesting. Didn't know I could mute the sound just for
that application. Must be a new Vista thing. Thanks to you guys Word is
now "tingless". And what a relief. Thank you for your help.

I found this too but after I had created my blank wav file LOL ;)
