Build 701 - Tools, Advanced Tools, System Explorers, Downloaded ActiveX
reports Microsoft Windows Genuine Advantage Validation as "Unknown".

Bit strange that a piece of strategic Microsoft software is "unknown"!

I clicked "Send to SpyNet for analysis..." - not sure what if anything
happened - no message box, no obvious feedback.

It's probably due to the file that lists the known ActiveX files doesn't
contain the ActiveX file for Microsoft Genuine Advantage Validation. This
should be added when the next version is released later this year, Beta 2.

The range of "possibles" you suggest as an explanation is too narrow.
I could repeat Bill Sanderson's message as it applies word for word to my
machine; yet, neither is the registry corrupt and nor the OS pirated or
otherwise not genuine.

The only reasonable explanation is that given by Alan.
After all, this is only Beta 1.
