I appreciate your response, mrxp2004. Unfortunately,
restoring desktop and toolar fix from kelly-.com did not
work.
I have no toolbar or desktop icons, only background or
screensaver. winkey+e worked once, but not again. task
manager/safemode performs functionally, virus/addware
clean. tech support (we never checked reistries or looked
at very many places, i thought)level 1 tried for 2 1/2
hours to no avail...level 2 will call tuesday...in the
meantime....help!? it's as though there is a huge load on
the system. sometimes even task manager will hourglass
indefinitely and i have to close program.

Kind of a desperation shot, but ...
What happens if you try running the system with minimal hardware?
eg. No CD-Rom/CD-RW/DVD. No sound card. No Printer. ...

using safe mode, restarted with disabled services and
disabled start up programs. would that be the same? tried,
it worked. where should i look for the overload? 55% of
disk space is free. virtual memory settings were are 768
and 1150.

Hi, if you can get into safe mode can you perform a system restore to a
point just before the issue happened?

unfortunately, one of the operations performed by tech
support removed all the restore points before we had a
chance to use it.

back-up what you can,and do a destructive recovery,bout
the only way to fix it now.
