MS Paint

I have MS Paint 5.0 (Build 2195, Service Pack 4), and I don't have JPG
as a file format in the Save As options.

Is this normal for this version of MS Paint?

On my XP laptop I have version 5.1, which does offer JPG as an option.

Can I upgrade to 5.1 on my Windows 2000 PC, or is 5.1 designed for XP?

Thank you.

Unfortunately no. On the other hand there are many third-party programs
around that you can use for the translation process.

Thanks for your reply.

When I try and annotate an existing JPG image and then save it in GIF
format, MS Paint 5.0 warns me about potential loss of colours/quality,
and sure enough, the resulting GIF file is unusable. Is this to be
expected with MS Paint 5.0, or am I missing something?

Hi!
Is this normal for this version of MS Paint?

It is normal and possible for either version of Paint (Windows 2000 or XP).
To use the other file formats, you've got to have conversion filters
installed. These can be included with Office and some other Microsoft
software packages.

Likewise, you can lose the ability to use these formats by installing some
Microsoft software packages.
