MS Paint takes about a minute to open up.
When restart is safemode is fine. any ideas

Scott,
Right click on one of the files in question and select properties and
see how large the file is.. BMP's can be HUGE.. If that be the case and you
have a slower processor it might take some time.. I have seen some full
screen bmp's that were over 5 MB's and that would be considered huge in my
book.
However, a full minute is a long time---agreed.

I had a similar problem, but all programs took a while to
open up files. Safe mode worked fine. Turned out that
the Antivirus had coughed on one of its pattern file
updates. You can test this assumption by opening
your Windows Explorer (the file manager, not IE). finding
a 10 meg plus file, right click on it, and
select scan for viruses. Should only take a second
or two. If it takes a few minutes, you have the same
problem I had. (Solution: upgrade to Trend's PC-cillian.)
