MS Outlook 2007 spell-checker not working

My spell checker is not working in my local copy of MS Outlook 2007.
I have selected as the default the option to spell check all emails before
sending them.
In most cases it does NOT do it.
Any advice on how to fix this?

Are you typing in the signature area? Right click on the text - do you see
the normal context menu or a list of sigs?

Do you have the latest updates? There was a bug with plain text mail with
spell check on send seemed to get spell checked but went out with the errors
intact- it was fixed.
