MS Outlook 2003 - where are data files stored

M

MEL

I need to copy my Outlook 2003 data files (calendar, contacts, tasks) from
an old hard drive to my new hard drive. Could someone tell me where those
files are typically stored on a hard drive.

My thanks,

Mary

Do a search for outlook.pst
That's the file you want.

The "typical" location can be dangerously misleading. You need to know
where *yours* are.

All these are stored in one .pst file, and you can find it in Outlook 2003
by going to File, Data File Management, then clicking on the file in
question and choosing Settings. The full file name with path will be
displayed in the Filename box.

You may notice that these pst files, like the Outlook Express .dbx and
Windows Address Book .wab files, are all located in folders that are, by
default, helpfully set to "hidden". This will cause some backup programs
to bypass them entirely.

My thanks to all for the assistance. You guys always come through when I
need help.

I have now gotten the pst file copied over and all is well.

While searching the internet for information, I came across a MS utility
on the MS site, that will backup (and restore) the Outlook files. I've
installed that and will now backup regularly to another hard drive.
Whew, I'm a happy camper.
