MS Money 2005 Update Fails Under Vista

Guest

After a clean install of Vista Home Premium on a brand new hard drive, I
reinstalled MS Money 2005 from CD. However, when I run the first Internet
Update for MS Money 2005, it fails with the error "Please make sure you are
still connected to the internet and have at least 100MB of free hard disk
space to perform this update."

I have read all the advice forums and tried the following (repeatedly, in
various sequences !):
1) Set up new administrator account, created new Money file, loaded the
sample Money file.
2) Right mouse click on Money and "Run as Administrator"
3) Checked environment variable TEMP is defined correctly
4) Installed Vista patch KB29427
5) Uninstalled Money and re-installed

But nothing works, so MS Money 2005 is currently unusable under Vista.

Please help!
Thanks.

I am running Money 2005 on Vista.

Try disabling UAC, run MSCONFIG todo this.

Problem fixed - Switching off Windows Firewall allowed the update to complete
successfully (I just wish the Firewall had told me it was causing the
problem!).

I had this problem when updating world of warcraft.

Try right clicking the program icon and go to "run as administrator" and try
again

I couldn't get it to update even when right-clicking to run as
administrator.

I ended up enabling the Administrator account, logging in as Administrator,
running the update, and then logging in as myself. I now have the
16.0.120.1303 version. However I still cannot get it to stop prompting for
the update upon login.

Your corporate lan administrator may have a problem with enabling the
Administrator account.

I am using Vista/32 Ultimate and Money 2007.

Barry,
You seem pretty familiar with Money and vista. I just got a new pc and it
came with money essentials and I can not get my money 2005 version, backup to
restore. I've tried several things and no good. So, I loaded my money 2005
and now I can't get my backup to restore on it either, I get a path name is
invalid error, and I've tried several different path names and am at a loss.
Any suggestions on how I can get either version to rsotre my backup would be
appreciated because my orginal laptop died and I can not retrieve any data
from it.
Thank you
Steve

Money 2005 needs to install an update before it will read your backup.
Run Money as Administrator (right click the shortcut - run as admin) & it
will tell you it needs to install an update.
Let the update install.
Close & restart Money normally & you will be able to open your backup.

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried it, but now my problem seems to be an
invalid path name, or lack of authorization to change or modify the file
location I selected to restore the backup to. I have tried several diffrent
file names/locations with the same result. Any suggestions would be
appreciated.
Thank you

Have you tried installing this update? It was just recently released.
The update lists Money 2005 has one of the programs it is supposed
to help.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/932246
The March 2007 Windows Vista Application Compatibility Update is a package of software updates
that address common application compatibility issues in Windows Vista.
