I'm having the exact problem they describe in
KB835744...why do I have to contact them to get the fix -
they already know it is a problem. XP came w/ the
computer, so MS's answer is to contact the reseller for
support. The reseller says to contact MS. I just want
the stinkin' patch. Does anyone know how I can get it?
Thanks...

Because, as it says, the fix has not been fully regression tested. They cannot guarantee that it won't break anything else. If the problem applies to you, and this is the fix you need, MS will not charge you for the support call.

Hi

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=835744

As the article states, you need to call Microsoft Product Support Services to
obtain it (outside the US, customers should contact their local Microsoft
subsidiary.). The support call will be be free as long as you refer to the
Knowledge Base Article number (835744) and ask for nothing more.

You will need to find the phone number from here:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=fh;[LN];CNTACTMS

In the wizard, Select WinXP, and Basic, and then "It was purchased separately"

For USA, you end up here
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=fh;en-us;Prodoffer31

Use phone number 425-635-3311
