MS IR Receiver sticking/overflow

I've recently purchased a HP s7750 and using it as a Media Center in the
sitting room. I'm running Vista Home Premium. To complete the set-up I bought
the MS Media Center Remote Control and Keyboard.

However, they've almost unusable in recent days as single key presses are
repeated ad infinitum and phantom key reads and disrupted use of the machine.

It appears to be the same issue reported in KB article 331913, which
indicates the firmware of the MS eHome IR receiver needs updating.

How do I do this under Vista with the constraints of Vista's Windows Update?
Where do I find the firmware update?

Thanks,
Stuart

My MS Remote wasn't working at all last month, but it was easy to get it
fixed Your symptoms are a bit different, but there is probably no harm in
you trying to use a different IR range.

Hold down the DVD menu button (my one has a 'disc in a box' icon) AND the
number '1' key at the same time for 5 seconds, until the LED at the top
blinks twice.

See if that helps.
