ms-fix bug-fix

Hi, probably in the wrong place for this but........

My sister in law has a tiny computer (ha ha i know). She was getting loads
of dodgy pop ups etc and the hard drive eventually screwed up, i have
disconnected the old hard drive and reconnected a new one, loaded the
operating system back on (straight from windows cd) and loaded McAfee & Work
suite on there too. From there i loaded up btopenworld straight from the cd
and as soon as it made the connection over the net to setup the btopenworld
account pop-ups started appearing sayong about "48 critical errors detected,
please go to bug-fix.com to repair" there are a number of different messages
appear all with the same theme but basically with a different website
address, ms-fix.com bug-fix.com etc, so it is obviously something malicious!

How can this be when it has a brand new hard drive? Any idea what i can do
to fix the situation?

suggestions before connecting to the internet or internal network
- apply SP2 updates to the OS from CD unless the CD include SP2. you can
either order that from Microsoft or download into a "clean" PC and burn one
- follow Bruce's suggestion of putting up a firewall ( software or hardware)
- connect to the internet (make sure all other PCs if any are disconnected
at the same time) and get updates for the MacAfee right away, install all
critical updates form Microsoft
-before you install other software, scan them with the latest Antivirus
protection.
