MS equation 3.0

Can anyone recommend a substitute for MS equation 3.0? This add-on works
but it's just too primitive (i.e., too many button clicking to create each
tiny part of an equation).
I faintly remember that a long time ago, I used another equation "maker"
(that was not as click-intensive as MS equation) and then just copy pasted
the equation into MS word. I don't rmember the name of the program anymore.

Yes. As you have found, Design Science provide a free 'Lite' version of
MathType which in Word is called Equation Editor v 3.0.

Never mind. I found Mathtype. I love being able to use
shortcut keys!

Matty, I'm glad you found a solution in MathType. As you no doubt
discovered, but others may not know, MathType lets you make up your
own keyboard shortcuts or change the built-in ones (Preferences >
Customize Keyboard). If you create an expression you want to save,
simply highlight it and drag it to the toolbar. You can add a shortcut
to these saved expressions too (Right-click > Properties). If you want
to know the shortcut for something, just point to it with your mouse,
and the MathType Status Bar (the bottom of the MathType window) will
tell you what it is and what the shortcut key is.

The Help file is very useful, with 19 tutorials, and the full text of
what was formerly in the printed User Manual.
