Imo, 98SE is best for 16bit applications. You may want to consider buying a
copy and putting it on a seperate partition of your hard drive. You will
need a utility such as Partition Magic to accomplish this task. There are
easier routes but imo 98SE is the best operating system for older
applications. For example KQ4 by Sierra will not work on XP with music.
Folks, trust me I know something about computers and have tried to tweak it
but it still will not work. However, on my 98SE side it works awesome. The
same is true for a lot of my older games and utilities. Finally, keep in
mind that support for 98SE has been extended for critical updates until 30
June 2006 by Microsoft. However, you may not be able to get the newest
drivers for audio and graphics cards that support 98SE because manufacturer
support of this o/s is waning since it is old having been released in 1999
and Microsoft no longer certifies drivers for it through DirectX. For
example, Creative does not make driver updates for 98SE anymore but as far
as I know Ati still does under a Millenium driver. Also, some new hardware
and software no longer support 98SE. That is why I have chosen to go
dual-boot and for me it works great. <s> I hope this helps you some and
have a great day.
