Greetings to all ....

I'm using WINDOWS XP SP1 and am having a little problem getting an old
MS-DOS application to display a little quicker on the screen.

This is an old 16-bit program that has been running ok - just fine on
the WINDOWS 95/98 PCS -- however ...

When I first start the application (menu1.exe) my display goes totally
blank for about 20-25 seconds then finally the applications main
screen appears.

I have tried messing with the executable's properties memory,
compatibility, screen, misc etc etc -- unfortunately I cannot seem
to fine the right thing to do make the application load a little
quicker on the screen (display) ...

If anyone has any ideas or tips, that would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Due to XP's DOS emulator not being true DOS, it runs a lot slower for most DOS programs are 16-bit
I have hundreds of DOS programs and they all run fine but the slowness is just part of moder
technology I guess. Bring back DOS!

If you have an old DOS or Windows program, that you just can't live without
you have a choice. You can set the computer up to dual boot. I believe a
better way is to install Virtual PC. You then use Virtual PC to install DOS
or another version of Windows. You then start DOS/Windows, under Virtual PC
and install your old program. You can run the DOS/Windows program in the
background while you do other tasks within Windows XP.

Real neat!

There are many many 16 bit applications that are not compatible with XP. Your
BEST bet is to find an equivalent program compatible with XP.

Thanks to all who posted suggestions!
