dos applications in windows xp professional

Okay, I got a good one for the experts. I am running windows XP professional
on a dell computer (pentium 4, 256 megs of ram, integrated video card, etc.).

On my previous computer, also a dell, I ran windows 98 and the dos
applictions that I used there (a program called mtrex which is used for
plotting and seismic data) worked fine.

I tried to transfer the programs over from the windows 98 machine to the
windows xp machine but no luck. Some of the functions of the application
don't work. The main problem is that the program should display a plot from
the seismic information that I input, but no plot, just video garbage
displayed.

The weird thing is that a co worker is using windows XP home edition and he
is running the same mtrex dos application and has no problems running his
application, incuding the plot displaying on the screen.

I have setup both machines exactly the same according to the dos shortcuts
(memory settings, compatiability mode settings, etc.) but no luck on the
windows xp pro machine.

What would be different from the windows xp home edition and windows xp pro
edition? Both version of windows xp are using service pack 2 and I have
applied all of the updates I can think of within windows xp pro. Can someone
please help me.

Edward Letendre.
