Can't run 16 bit & dos applications

I run windows xp pro.when I try to run 16 bit or dos
applications windows displays this message :

title: 16 bit windows subsystem
"F:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT.The system file is
not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows
applications. Choose close to terminate the application."
with th options "Close" & "Ignore".ignoring dosen't do
any good.

XP will NOT recognize DOS. XP does not run DOS programs,
ever. The XP system was not built on DOS as were 3.x, 95,
98, and Me.

Not true, many DOS programs will run under XP using the compatability mode.

Not at all true. Windows XP will run *many* DOS programs right
out of the box, without doing anything special. Others will run
if you run them in compatibility mode. Only some DOS programs
(typically those that try to access the hardware directly) won't
run at all.

True, but irrelevant to the above.
