MS Backup

Is there a way to make MS Backup do an incremental backup but delete files on
the destination location only if the files were modified? For example, I've
been running a daily backup each day and an additional 1GB is added to my
backup location. I think the 1GB is from my Outlook.pst. Eventually, I'll
run out of hard drive space. If the incremental backup sees a file that's
been modified, I want the file deleted first (on the destination location)
and then replaced.

If MS backup can't do this, is there another program that anyone recommends?

You have to periodically do a new full backup and then start the
incrementals over again. Typically once a week you do a full backup and then
incrementals the rest of the week. It sounds like you may need to use a
different program. I'm not sure what you are trying to do but here is one
method that may work. Use a disk imaging program to keep a reference copy of
the system. You need at least two copies of this, one stored on removable
media that is kept somewhere besides near the computer. This should be
updated periodically whenever you add or update a program. Then you need at
least two methods of backing up your data. Again you need one method that
can be stored somewhere besides near your computer. I use two methods of
doing this. I use a DVD burning program to burn my data to DVD and I use
SyncToy to keep a copy of the data on a share on another computer. Here is
my overall backup strategy. I use Acronis True Image to keep images of all
my partitions on DVD's and a portable USB drive. I use SyncToy to
synchronise copies of my data onto a share on another computer. You could
also use a USB drive for this. I also periodically burn my data to DVD's.
The USB drive with the system images and the data DVD's are stored in the
basement. I am still vulnerable to some disaster scenarios like a fire but
my data is not that important. If it was the backups would be stored off
site.
