There was a problem in update at previous versions of MS Antispyware which
still exists!!!
When i update the latest definition files the next day it rolls it back to
the previous updates
Does anyone know something to solve this?????(exept the manualy update...)
Thanks....!

This is an unusual description. Are you certain that you aren't running
some other antispyware or system roll-back application which is attempting
to "protect" the \program files\microsoft antispyware folder from
modification?

If you do an update definition which is apparently successful, then go to
Help, about. Press the diagnostics button, and look down the list for a
line ending in something resembling 134/134.

Make a note of the program version, (presumably 1.0.701?) the definitions
version, and the numbers on that line. Then tell us what happens to those
same numbers the next morning?

Definitions Increment Version: 126/126
Definitions ThreatAuditThreatData: 1295928
Definitions ThreatAuditScanData: 2833207
Definitions DeterminationData: 650730
the version is 1.0.701!

I have perform a test!I cut
ThreatAuditThreatData,ThreatAuditScanData,DeterminationData and put them to
another partition!(These are the files which i download when i do a manualy
update!)Then i open the MS antispyware and i perform an update!
i have search to the programs folder for the new files created but they were
not!
Although at the programs main panel it shows that the latest def files are
installed with the right date
but after a restart on the computer it shows the default def files istalled
like i haven't perform an update ever but the date is still the right one!

If you physically delete the definition files, it is possible that they will
be recreated with the default set of files which were current as of the
release of your program version. Not sure what that is with .701--it seems
to me it should be a later set than the 126/126 indicates.

Are you running as administrator? What version of Windows--Home, Pro??

Can you state specifically what the main program screen says about the date
and the definitions? When you go to Help, about--what is the definition
number--5781, for example--that is shown?

I am running as administrator my operating is Windows2000pro SP4
I have checked also the programms folder for the security rights but all
seems to be ok!
The programms main screen says that the def files 5773version have been
installed at 9/12/2005
yesterday had 8/12/2005 with the same def files installed!
I understand that it connects to the update server but why it dosent update?
and why when it does it rolls it back to the previous condition?????????
sorry again to bother you but i dont know what else to do!

It sounds as though you are doing everything right.

Here's a set of steps I would like to try to see whether they fix this
issue.

1) go to start, accessories, system tools, disk cleanup, and let disk
cleanup clean the temporary Internet files.
2) uninstall Microsoft Antispyware
3) delete \program files\microsoft antispyware and all subfolders
You will lose access to any quarantined items, history, and custom settings
3) Taking care to be signed in as administrator, reinstall the current
version (.701) of Microsoft Antispyware.

Steps 1 and 3 are the most significant in this case, I think.

I believe this should take care of the situation unless there is some third
party program running at startup or in the background which is rolling back
changes to programs--this has come up occasionally before, but I don't have
any names of such programs at the tip of my tongue.

Thanks for sticking with me--I didn't mean to sound annoyed--you've got an
unusual presentation of a problem, and I'm just trying to get the details
straight.

Hello again..................
guess what?I perform the steps you ask for but the problem remains............
it havent update at all!
i have a corporate firewall but i m from the it department so i have all the

Does it has anything to do with the registry???????????
i dont know just asking!
thank you for your time again!!!!!

Lets recap and see if I understand the issue.

You can apparently successfully update? If you go to Help, about, and hit
the diagnostics button, 138/138 would be a success in my book.

And then, the next day, you are back to 126/126??

If that is what is happening, I think there's an active agent of some
kind--i.e. software from a third party, presumably, causing this reversion.
What kind of maintenance goes on at night?
