MS AntiSpyware install dies on MCE2005

Good Day,

I am attempting to install and run the MS Anti-Spyware
tool on Windows Media Center Edition 2005. Install
appears to operate correctly. However at the point where
the indicator bar should show files installing, it simply
jumps to the end and says installation concluded
correctly. When I run the application I get an error
telling me that the App couldn't bet started and suggests
reinstalling. Also the installer is still running (as
evidenced by the .EXE listed in task manager /
processes).

Can you tell me what might be going on here?

Do read the release notes Cinder pointed out--about issues with Media Center
Extender devices.

There's no other issue I'm aware of preventing use of the product on MCE2005
machines. One approach I could imagine would be using MSCONFIG to configure
a clean boot.

I need to test whether Microsoft Antispyware can be installed in the
Diagnostic boot setting of MSCONFIG. If you make that setting, and the
installer is still missing services, go to the startup tab, and check off
all Microsoft services, and restart--so that you are in Diagnostic mode plus
all Microsoft services.

There have been a number of installer-related issues posted, but most of
these result in an error message of some sort that makes it clearer what is
going on.
