MS anti-spyware took a liberty !

I meant Richard's (RJK) default was set for Google, not Internet Explorer's
default setting. My default setting is also Google right now. If a change
occurs MSAS will see it and return it to Google, not MSN.

Yesterday, Ms anti-spyware beta popped up a box with a message, saying in
as many words, that because I use Google a lot, instead of something else,
it was going to automatically change something in my browser toolbar
settings, or menus, or whatever it was, to "Google" ...and then it
proceeded to do so without a "by your leave" !!!

I don't know what it changed, and I have a feeling it's something I don't
use but, I would prefer such software to NOT change things for me, or at
the very least give me the option of refusing the change !

MRT has never ever done that to me.

So will SpywareGuard.

Unless I am mistaken it is quite difficult to change the default
Search Engine from MSN. So far I have only found it achieved
by a Registry edit. Unless I am mistaken it cannot be done
within Internet Explorer.

And as said the program is NOT the cause. It is only giving you a warning.

If you install a different program it can give the same warning, it hasn't
become the cause- the program is the messenger too.

You choose your security for your computer. You have chosen a BETA program.
It seemingly gives you the warning but doesn't stop the program that is the
cause of your concern from doing what it wants to do- consider getting and
using a program that will do what you want- but you can't blame the program.
It does only what it is designed to do. You chose the program.

Well, something certainly went BANG !
I'd had Bittorrent running all day, and during toaday day used a succession
of different programs, including Word, Dreamweaver, PowerDVD, Nero 6, to
burn a couple of DVD's, Corel 10 - ScreenCapture, OE, and maybe a couple of
others.

About half an hour ago I quit Bittorrent by mistake, (hit the x instead of
minimize), I then deleted everything in my Prefetch folder, (been meaning to
do that for a couple of days, I normally leave it alone but, I'd uninstalled
and installed several programs during the past few days), and rebooted to
find no sign of MSAS, a/v and firewall in System Tray. ZA started up ok
manually as did AVG, and so did MSAS but, my instincts told me the culprit
is MSAS / possibly connected with emptying the Prefetch folder.

I system restored to the last checkpoint, uninstalled MSAS, deleted all in
Prefetch rebooted and all is well,
.....I think that someone earlier in this thread said, in as many words,
"Serve you right for using beta software."

...bye bye MSAS !!!!!

Very easy to change it in IE.

Click on Search
Click on Change Preferences
Click on Change Internet Search Behavior
Choose which search engine you want to use.

Only if certain settings are enabled after I found out
after I made that post.

Apparently changes are being made in IE7.

So what. Research what the term BETA means. Good luck.
