MPV's Help! Huge bullet problem.

L

Luut

Hello everyone.

Please, I really need some help with this one! It's the
third time I post this message and it seems nobody has an
answer.

I made a custom template. But a problem appears. When I
draw a shape or textbox, a bullet is placed automatically
in the shape or textbox. I tried removing it and then
check the option 'default for new object'. Also opening a
new presentation, drawing a textbox without bullet, copy
it to the 'faulty' presentation and setting the copied
textbox as default. But the bullet keeps reappearing when
I draw a textbox or shape. MPV's, how can I get rid of the
bullet?

Secondly, incase I do want to have a template with auto
bullets in textboxes, the bullet is not of the type that I
want it to be. Now it's a little dot, but I want it to be
an arrow (a character from the wingdings font). I know how
to change it afterwards in a bulleted textbox, but how do
I make it standard? Selecting a textbox with the right
settings and make it set as default for new objects won't
work. My textbox placeholder on the master slide has the
right settings when it comes to the settings of the bullet
types, but still when I draw a new textbox, a whole
different textbox with other settings appears.
Again, thanks in advance.
Greetz, Luut.

Ps: if I have to send the template so you can check it,
please tell me where to send it.

Hi Luut,

though I'm not one of the MVPs, I'll try to help you with your problem:

I myself had this problem once, it appeared because I had tried to copy the
format of the master text placeholder to the AutoShape. I only wanted the
font, text color and so on, but the bullets were copied as Standard, too.
The only solution I found was to build a completely new master.

I tried to reproduce the problem afterwards, but the bullets seem not to be
set as standard in every case ... ?
Secondly, incase I do want to have a template with auto

There's no standard setting for bullets for text boxes, AFAIK. (Apart from
that: usually text boxes without bullets make more sense.) As a workaround,
you could format one text box with dummy text according to your needs, and
copy this to other slides when needed.

Well, I know I've seen a few replies, but now I can't recall what the
suggestions were. So I may repeat advice here.

PPT's a little picky about its textboxes and the defaults. So try this:
Remove the bullet and format the text the way you want it.

Then go to Format/Textbox (on the menubar, don't do the right-click to
that shortcut) and click "default for new objects." (This is probably
what you've already been doing.)

Then, immediately go to Format/Font and click "default for new objects."

However, I will say that I've got one template which does something like
what you're seeing as well. I *cannot* seem to get the default textbox
to do what I want, and it makes me nuts, too. So it's not a totally
unknown thing. I suspect that the presentation I'm having problems with
has been around a number of different versions of PPT, including some on
a Mac. So I'm guessing there's some corruption somewhere.

You might want to try the Clone Me utility from MS -- run it on a copy
of your presentation and see if it cleans out the willies.

Or round-trip it through HTML. That often cleans up files which exhibit
oddities. http://www.powerpointworkbench.com/html/round_trip.htm

Greetz, Luut.

Try the same thing I suggested above by setting both default object and
font. Your bullet (or no bullet) *should* carry over with the settings.
Worse comes to worst, you can use the Format Painter to just format the
things all at once. That would be the easiest way around it. Or maybe
use the rectangle autoshape to do your manual textboxes instead.
Ps: if I have to send the template so you can check it,
please tell me where to send it.

Sorry, I'm swamped right now, so I can't take a look at it until later
this week, probably. You're welcome to email it to echos at indy dot
net, but no guarantees I'll be able to do anything for at least a few
days.

Nuts.

Go ahead and shoot me a couple of slides if you want, Luut. Please just
email them -- don't post them here in the newsgroup. echos at indy dot
net I'll try to look at it in the next couple of days. Please include in
the email a recap of what you're trying to do along with a reminder of
what version of PPT you're using.

Duh! Luut, right-click the textbox you formatted, then select "set
autoshape defaults." You should be good to go.

Apologies for *totally* forgetting about that setting.

LOL! I'm just glad you saw that post. I was so late with it, I was afraid
we'd missed you, Luut. (Assuming "anonymous" is Luut--in this thread,
anyway. <G>)
