So, I am trying to install some software on my computer and I am getting the
following error message:

MPlayer2 Error!
The correct version of Windows Media
Player needs to be installed.
You can install it by running Setup.exe
program located in Util\ on your CD.
Mark "Windows Media Player" check box.
Click "Next".
Follow the instructions.

Does anyone know how to fix this problem? I am on a WinXP machine with the
latest version of Windows Media Player. Thanks for any kind of assistance.

The latest version of Windows Media Player and MPlayer 2 (a much older
version of media player) are two different things. An mplayer2.exe file is
included in XP and is in same folder as wmplayer.exe. While running
mplayer2.exe will produce a window for the smaller, lightweight player,
this program is not as full featured as regular Media Player. Also this
file is not exactly the same as its predecessors as it has been updated to
work with XP. Another updated version is included in SP2 as well.

It would appear that the program you're trying to install does not
recognize or will not work with the file/version. Or it is looking for
mplayer2.exe in the wrong place. I would hesitate to recommend installing
the one included in the Util\ folder of the program's CD since it may
conflict with the one included in XP. I think that this is an issue that
you'll need to take up with tech support for the program that you're trying
to install.
